Christmas in April: Dane101's mini-documentary of the 2010 Wisconsin Film Festival

Due to the anticipation of the Wisconsin Film Festival starting today, we thought we'd repost a documentary dane101 created last year.

Walking around from theater to theater, enjoying the weather and thinking about the movies I just saw or was about to see, I realized that the Wisconsin Film Festival could very well be my favorite thing about Madison. I salivate for it all year long. Not just for the movies but also for the opportunity to cover it here for Dane101 year after year. It's a crazy, fun-filled five days of films, friends and frantic writing. It’s right up my alley.

I decided to try something different this year and edited together a mini-documentary about my five days covering the festival. The film features WFF director Meg Hamel, Dane101/Film101 contributors Rick Stemm, Michael Donnelly, Russel Reed, Dave Kreisman, and also features the filmmakers behind Feed the Fish, NONAMES, Into the Pit: Deadpit.com, The Things We Carry, Growing in Knowing, Mary’s Friend, Sharp Teeth, Milk Punch, Shadow of Lies, and others.

This is meant to be fun and enjoyed by those that may not have even attended the film festival. There are interviews with local musicians Shane O'Neill (of Screamin' Cyn Cyn and the Pons/Shane Shane) and Nate Tredinnick (Home Demo Vixen/The Shabelles). The video includes songs from local Madison musicians like The Midwest Beat, Vid Libert, Home Demo Vixen, The Shabelles, Superstar Fantastico, as well as some kick-ass street band. Video footage is exceptionally provided by Dave Kreisman and not as exceptionally provided by myself.

Thank you.

Thanks Adam, it's a great piece. Feed the Fish would thank you too, if it were a person.

This is wonderful, even better than I thought, and I was excited when I saw the rough cut. I think you should send it directly to Meg.

Really excellent - kudos to everyone behind this.

Looks good, Adam! I don't think you need to re-do it at all - I like it the way it is.
