Crazy, likely very expensive, Dark Knight film promotion returns to Madison for a bowling trip
Madison continues to be one of the cities chosen to be a primary target for the insane viral marketing campaign behind the new Batman film, The Dark Knight, set for release in July. We already reported on the Dentmobile hitting the city (a van promoting Harvey Dent's run for Gotham City District Attorney) and now "Clown Travel" has dropped off a package at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes at 2121 East Springs Drive. A little under a week ago the "Clown Travel Agency" website went up and today a series of addresses spanning the globe were released on the website (by spanning I mean from Hong Kong to London to Brazil to San Francisco to Madison, crazy).
According to the "Brotherhood of the Bat" message boards "Mike" drove two hours to Madison while his sister watched the website waiting for the address in Madison to be revealed. The bounty?
...there's a bowling ball that's green/purple with a cell phone, joker card, and a note wrapped up in an evidence bag. I called the number on the bowling ball that the note told me too and it said something about a rent-a-clown service. There's the name "Moe" on the bowling ball...
The note provided with the bowling ball reads:
Nice work, clown! Now call the number on the ball immediately, from this phone and THIS PHONE ONLY. Don't give this number to anyone else, or I'll know.
Hopefully, your cohorts will be in the same league as you, because once all your points are racked up, I'll give you all something that will really bowl you over...
If you call the number on the bowling ball, which I did, you will hear this (click, don't be shy). The rumor is that once all of the balls and phones are located a new Dark Knight trailer will be posted on the Clown Travel website. As of this posting there are four to go.
The big question, will what must be one of the most expensive viral film promotion campaigns in history pay off? The not so big question, because I used my work phone to call the clown line, will I start receiving calls from the Joker at work? Man, that could be embarrassing.
