Public Enemies: John Ortiz shows off his shooting schedule; and Johnny Depp gets a Tommy Gun
I'm still not saying the name of the hotel where some of the cast members are staying, but if you hang around the upper end of State Street you have a pretty good chance of catching them. John Ortiz was at Espresso Royale on Monday and was kind enough to show off his shooting schedule to some folks who sauntered up and spoke with the "hunky" (not my word) actor who most recently appeared in Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem. Reportedly, Ortiz is scheduled to shoot in Columbus, Darlington, and Minoqua. He isn't down for Madison, but that makes sense because he is playing gangster Frank Nitti and apparently the only scenes being shot here have to do with J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI office. We already know that Governor Jim Doyle's office and the north hearing room in the Capitol building are being considered to play the backdrop for those scenes. What that likely means is that we will get Christian Bale, who plays the main Fed pursuing Dillinger's gang, and whoever they end up casting as the young Hoover.
This isn't Ortiz's first time working with Michael Mann. He previously starred in Mann's film version of Miami Vice as Jose Yero. Random fact, on this date in 1943 Frank Nitti committed suicide at the Chicago Central Railroad.
Speaking of the elusive Christian Bale, when does he make his appearance in Wisconsin? Still not known, but he did tell "Screen Rant" on Tuesday that he starts filming for Michael Mann's gangster flick next week.
Did you try out as an extra, but didn't get a part? Don't be too envious. Extras had to be on set in Darlington, Wisconsin at 5:15 this morning. That's right, if you were a Madisonian cast as an extra you had to be in Darlington - nearly 1.5 hours away - at 5:15 a.m. Reportedly they are shooting (Potential spoiler alert. Invisotext on) a court room scene in Darlington on a closed set (Invisotext off, highlight to read), so no snooping paparazzi and no guarantee as to who will be there.
[UPDATE 9:20 a.m.]: Johnny Depp Reads has posted some detailed information on when shooting will happen. They suggest Madison will be filming on March 20 and 21.[END UPDATE]
Johnny gets a Tommy. On Monday most of the filming was of Depp driving in a long loop over and over again and on Tuesday they shot part of the bank robbery featuring Depp with a Tommy Gun. WildShiniGami has an excellent round up of a day spent in Columbus, describing many of the scenes that were shot and also the general positive and friendly atmosphere Wisconsinites provided. The Baraboo News Republic also has details of what was shot and crowd reactions.
For the Wisconsin State Journal, Susan Smith spoke with some of the residents of Columbus and the fans that gathered. She paints a perfect picture of the excitement in the air. Smith also provides tips for those of you who may be thinking about checking out the scene when filming returns tomorrow.
Toadlessgirl has some shots of Johnny and his Tommy and I have to admit, seeing the gangsters hanging on the side of the car with guns makes me absolutely giddy. Colleen at Stampin' and Scrappin' also has a clear photo.
Photographer Rod Mellotte continued blogging about the full day of shooting at PublicEnemiesColumbus.
Wisconsonology has posted a couple of videos of the filming.
PBHGirl also has a whole slew of "Public Enemies" photos. Very nice quality.

Not filming in Madison tomorrow
We've been told that the last bit of filming will be tomorrow in Columbus and that the crew will be headed down to Chicago once it is over. After that they will not likely be returning to Wisconsin until April. We should have more specifics tomorrow morning.
