Election 2008: Harvey Dent to speak in Madison

harveydent030908.jpgHarvey Dent is currently running for District Attorney of Gotham City and Dane101 has learned the candidate will be making an appearance in Madison. Well, sorta. 1) Gotham City isn't located in Wisconsin 2) Gotham City is fictional 3) Aaron Eckhart, who is playing Harvey Dent in the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight, isn't actually expected to be touring with his Dentmobile. So, technically, The Dentmobile will simply be passing through Madison in order to drum up interest in the new Christopher Nolan directed Batman flick scheduled for release on July 18. Most likely no one will be speaking, but we may see a hand waving out the window pretending to be Dent.

Dane101 learned that the Dentmobile would be passing through the city while listening to Brad Boron's "Film Talk Show" on WSUM. A quick peak at the Harvey Dent campaign site (ibelieveinharveydent.com) confirms that The Dentmobile will indeed eventually be passing through Madison, but no official date has been released.

Ready for some wild speculation? As you likely know, Christian Bale returns as the Caped Crusader for this film and Bale will be in Wisconsin over the coming month to film scenes for the film Public Enemies. Could billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne possibly make a campaign stop in Madison on behalf of Dent? Yeah, I also doubt it, but I had to say it.

darkknight031008.jpgAs Boron noted on his show this evening the viral marketing surrounding the new Batman film "raises the bar" for film promotion. In addition to the official The Dark Knight website Warner Brothers has rolled out numerous other websites, often through leaks and puzzles passed on to curious fans. Dent's site launched in May of 2007, followed by a sister site that mirrored the original site. As fans sent emails to an address in the site it slowly resulted in the defacement of Dent and a full reveal of Heather Ledger as Batman antagonist The Joker.

Reports suggest that Nolan is basing a great deal of this new film on the 13-part Batman storyline The Long Halloween." In that story arch Batman teams up with a young Detective Gordon and AG Dent to clean up the city of the criminal element. During the storyline acid is splashed on Dent's face scarring it on the left side and transforming him into the villain Two-Face. Eckhart has said in interviews that he will be appearing as Two-Face in the movie while Nolan has denied this rumor.
