Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - Majestic Theatre: Editors, Hot Hot Heat, and Louis XIV
The Editors headline this show, but one certainly can't count out Hot Hot Heat and Louis XIV. One of the best touring line-ups to hit Madison in some time this show is not to be missed. Louis XIV channel "glam, scratchy punk, and vintage Rolling Stones" while Hot Hot Heat play aggresive indie rock with lyrics featuring plenty of "witty wordplay." The Editors are a "neo-post-punk quartet" hailing from Britian and have been compared to the likes of Interpol and Bloc Party. Show starts at 7:45 p.m.
Thursday, February 7, 2008 - High Noon Saloon: Will Hoge, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, and Dawn Landes
Another solid line up of touring power will hit the High Noon next week. Jason Isbell has pretty much made Madison a second home with this being his fourth stop in the city in two years. Isbell combines roots rock with a growling blues infused cow punk swagger. Will Hoge is the epitome of American rock - earning comparisons to Bruce Springsteen, older John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, and Neil Young. Although she hails from Kentucky, Dawn Landes has a special Madison connection due to her time playing with Rainer Maria. Her solo work bridges alt-folk and alt-country.
Friday, February 8, 2008 - High Noon Saloon: Basia Bulat and Pale Young Gentlemen
Pairing Basia Bulat with Madison's Pale Young Gentlemen is a case of booking genius. For her debut album she worked with Arcade Fire producer Howard Bilerman resulting in a lush and orchestral chamber pop that fits perfectly with the PYG's increasingly lush and orchestral chamber pop. The only way to make this show better would be for Baisia and PYG's Michael Reisenauer to perform a song together. It could happen.
