NPS2008: El Guante shotguns vampires and slams the undead

[inline:1]Sometimes uprooting and taking on new surroundings can be all it takes to unleash the creative flow. One of Madison's favorite sons, El Guante, recently left us for our much chillier sister city to the northwest - Minneapolis - and stands as a testament to uprooting and unleashing. That isn't to say El Guante, who you may also know as Kyle Myhre, ever had an issue with inspiration while living in Madison, but since moving to Minneapolis less than four months ago he has completed a book titled SHOTGUN SAMURAI VAMPIRE HIP HOP and is putting the finishing flourishes on a new album set to hit the public in February. He will be back in Madison as part of the Home Grown Hip Hop Festival at the Memorial Union December 6-7. The festival includes Brother Ali, Rhymefest, the Figureheads, and more. Additionally, Myhre has produced his first video in two months. The title is "Love in the Time of Zombies" (hat tip to GGM) and captures a slam poet professing his love into a video camera as hordes of the undead gather outside. It serves as a good primer and reminder that Madison will be hosting the National Poetry Slam in August of 2008. More than 75 teams will descend on our city at which point it will be deluged with a torrent of verse and cadence. Check out Myhre's video below:
