2005 Art Fair on the Square in Pictures – Vol. 1

afonts0705.jpgThis year’s edition of the Arts Fair on the Square ended this evening, closing one of the hottest weekends of the year. As usual, the crowds were thick, the Farmers’ Market vendors had a week off, and the arts selection was diverse and pricey for the casual attendee. Proceeds went to raise money for the event's sponsor, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Even if you weren't there to buy something, however, it was an exhibition worth checking out. As mentioned earlier, there is a deluge of photos coming, in this post and in another on the way.

As described by MadMuConArt, the Fair;

Quote:
has been Madison’s signature cultural event for over forty-five years, enlivening the scenic grounds of the city’s Capitol Square during the second weekend of July. Each summer over 200,000 enthusiastic fairgoers gather for this spectacular event. The unique and large selection of fine, handcrafted work includes ceramics, fiber, glasswork, graphics, jewelry, leather, mixed media painting, photography, sculpture, and wood. In addition to the displays of nearly 500 artists from across the country, live music and a host of free kids’ activities round out the event’s offerings.

The first set of photos features Arts Fair exhibitors on Mifflin and Carroll streets, beginning at the northern point of the Square and moving in the accustomed counter-clockwise direction. There are 27 pictures in all, appearing below the fold.
