Con, Kon, or Kahn? In Madison, the Geeks rule.

Adventure | Festival | Geek-Kon2008
oddcon2008.jpgGeek.Kon 2007 was a huge success, but with some of the founders graduating and moving on from Madison I wasn't sure if we would see a year two. To my delight, a link just arrived in my e-mail box alerting me to the trailer for Geek.Kon.08. The trailer, a clever play on Lord of the Rings, acts as the official announcement for the convention which attracted more than 2000 to the University of Wisconsin last year. This year the event is planned for September 27 through 28 and they already have some preliminary information available on the aught-eight website for cosplay, LAN parties, and miniatures. One can also take part in pre-Geek-Kon discussions in the forums.

Can't wait until September? It would be a crime for us to ignore Odyssey Con 2008 taking place the same weekend as the Wisconsin Film Festival, April 4-6. While Geek-Kon leans more toward anime and digital influenced geekiness, OddCon has a heavier focus on the worlds laid out in pulp and celluloid. Some of the topics for OddCon this year include "Worlds of Whedon," " I’m In Charge Now: World Creation," "Blowing Up the Vampire Archetype," and "Pre-Industrial Entertainment & Prostitution." One common thread for the Kon and the Con (can I get a Kahn?) is they both promise plenty of Daleks. Registration for OddCon closes on March 25.

Geeky good

Huzzah!

I dare you to call Genghis

I dare you to call Genghis Kahn a geek to his face :)

Khan

That isn't the Khan I was referencing. Turns out, I spelled his name wrong.

Exterminate-tastic!

Anything with more Daleks is a-ok in my book.
